Sea Shepherd BANNED in the Faroe Islands

Sea Shepherd BANNED in the Faroe Islands

Sea Shepherd’s summer campaign in the Faroe Islands was titled “GRINDSTOP 2014.”  The only “stop” that happened was a stop to any success by Sea Shepherd clowns from the floating circus who amused the good people of the Faroe Islands.

The Parliament of the Faroe Islands is about to enact legislation to ban Sea Shepherd and similar circuses from the Faroe Islands.  Read below a message from the Faroe Islands for an explanation.

The law will ban Sea Shepherd and likeminded clowns from interfering with a Grind (whale harvesting) or with the intent of interfering.  In support penalties will increase and acquire added strength.  Basically Sea Shepherd did not stop the Grind; instead they made the Grind stronger.

Message from the Faroe Islands through Facebook explaining what happened in the Parliament and the process:

“The Parliament has not yet voted on this law.
What has happened is the opposition in Parliament (the minority) has proposed a law that would ban organization like the SSCS in the Faroe Islands. The Government (the majority) declined this law.
Instead, they have ordered the Minister in charge, to take the proposal by the opposition, make it much stricter and impose much heavier punishments for breaking this law. They ask to have any organization or personnel associated with such, that try to enter the Faroe Islands with the intent to oppose or interfere in LEGAL hunting practices, to be banned from entering Faroese Territory. They also want the Fines to skyrocket, and give the Judge sufficient cause to confiscate any material, equipment and vessels used or merely intended for the use of interfering in legal hunts.
The Parliament approved by 29 Votes in favor and 4 non-votes (out of 33 MP's total!) to order the Minister to have this law ready for the Parliament to vote on no later than May 1st 2015.”

Japan: safe, litter free and hear the train a coming

Japan: safe, litter free
and
hear the train a coming

Japan not only being one of the safest countries it must also be one of the most litter-free countries.  Travel the cities and country side and you will struggle to find a noticeable gathering of litter.  Subway tracks seem to provide an unsightly attraction for litter.  However in Japan this attraction seems to be non-existent.

Japanese trains are amazing, fast, clean, reliable, and on time.  While at the train station in Osaka a high-speed train (bullet train) arrived from Tokyo.  That train incorporated a robust number of passenger cars.  That train was long enough to wonder if the last car of the train was still in Tokyo when the first reached Osaka.

In the USA when exiting a convenience store in the Seven-Eleven chain one notices on the door frame a measuring tape.  This allows an employee to provide the height of a thief exiting.  Now exit a Seven-Eleven in Tokyo, you would notice no such tape appear on the door frame.  Tokyo being one of the largest cities in the world is also one of the safest cities in the world.

A dog named Buddy

A dog named Buddy

Buddy, a beagle mix is a dog rescued from a dog pound by 85 year old J.R. Nicholson, near Mason, Texas.  Recently Mr. Nicholson was transported to hospital via an ambulance.  While the ambulance barreling down the country roads passing motorists signaled the driver concerned about their ambulance’s side step.

Mr. Nicholson’s dog Buddy had jumped on the ambulance side-step and somehow managed to stay on for about twenty miles up hills and rolling around on twisted roads.  The ambulance stopped and brought Buddy inside the ambulance to drive the rest of the way to the hospital with Mr. Nicholson.

Buddy was rescued twice and prove to be man’s best friend.

Japan Bashing Glendale City Council Comfort Women statue issue

Japan Bashing Glendale City Council
Comfort Women statue issue

The city of Glendale, California through their elected leaders and City Manager, have decided to let stand the perception their city supports Japan bashing and activity engaged it this insidious behavior.

Glendale City Council Japan Bashing
October 21, 2014 addressing the City Council and City Manager was this little man from Texas, me.  In my under three minute oration they were informed the Comfort Women statue they approved in their city park is interpreted in Japan as Japan bashing, illustrates disrespect, dishonor to the nation and people of Japan.

My suggestion for the City was to modify the inscription on the marble slab sitting on the ground next to the Comfort Women statue.  The current slab memorializes Comfort Women for the Japanese Imperial military from 1932 to 1945.  In 2014 a new group of South Korean Comfort Women came public stating they were forced into serving as Comfort Women by the South Korean military for the U.S. military from 1950 to around the 1980’s or early 1990’s.

The suggestion was to add this new group of Comfort Women to the inscription on that marble slab   thereby illustrating that statue was not intended to bash Japan but to memorialize all Comfort Women.  It would also demonstrate consistency by the City Council.

This was during their “oral communications” part of the City Council meeting.  Items discussed during this portion are referred to the City Manage for further consideration.  A few weeks after the meeting I wrote Mr. Scott Ochoa, their city manager asking if any consideration was given to my suggestion.

Some days later Mr. Dan Bell, Community Relations Coordinator, wrote me on behalf of the City the following:

“Regarding your question to Glendale City Manager Scott Ochoa the City has no plans to make any amendments to the Comfort Women Monument.”

Meaning the City of Glendale, California is contented with the perception their city is engaging in the demonstrably ugly activity of Japan bashing.

Now it is time for the people of Japan to participate in this venture.  The City of Glendale enjoys a sister-city relationship with the Japanese city of Higashiosaka.  This city is located in the Osaka Prefecture.  People in Japan, specifically in the Osaka Prefecture, may want to consider attending a Higashiosaka City Council meeting and inform them of the Japan Bashing approved by their sister-city in Glendale, California.  Urging a revocation of this sister-city relationship would send a strong signal to the City Council of Glendale, California.

This little man sitting on the lone prairie in Texas (me) has now passed the mantle to the good people of Japan to defend their honor and respect.
